Chiropractic Care for Hearing Loss
(Shocking)Deaf Man Cured Because Of Chiropractic Care
On September 18, 1895, a deaf janitor named Harvey Lillard had his hearing restored after he received the first chiropractic adjustment by Daniel David (D.D.) Palmer. (Photo above)
This is mind-blowing and most people have no idea that this is actually how chiropractic care started.
The founder thought he had discovered a cure for deafness!
Frankly, we have come a long way in our understanding of chiropractic care since then and have found that helping hearing loss is actually quite rare.
Can Chiropractic Care Cure Deafness?
Unfortunately, chiropractic care is not a cure for deafness.
However, according to a study done in 2006 in certain cases, it may help provide relief and partially restore hearing in patients if the root cause of their hearing loss is due to a spinal issue.
The study went on to say that unfortunately, “the small sample size and that there was no blinding of the investigator though patients were blinded to the fact that hearing would be tested post-chiropractic care“.
That means that there were simply not enough people and resources to conduct research that can prove without a doubt that chiropractic care helps hearing loss.
So although the study had 11/15 patients report hearing improvements, the study was only able to speculate about which different systems in the body caused it.
How Long Does It Take For Chiropractic Care To Correct Hearing Loss?
We normally try to share our personal observations from our Sacramento Chiropractic Office in these questions. Unfortunately, this is not something we have had a substantial amount of experience with, and even the scientific literature seems to suggest chiropractic care may not improve hearing in everyone consistently. It seems like there is more research that could be done in this area to ascertain what hearing loss conditions (If any) get improved with Chiropractic Care.
Thanks for stopping by!
Normally we encourage potential patients to reach out for care at the end of our articles but frankly, this may be an exception. Chiropractic care should NOT be your first choice in health care for hearing loss. We strongly recommend reaching out to your primary care provider to coordinate care for your heating.
That being said we hope that this article was at least to help you decide what care not to get.
