What Is Tinnitus?
Tinnitus is a condition characterized by ringing or other sounds in the ears that are not caused by an external source. These sounds can be described as ringing, hissing, buzzing, or humming, and can vary in intensity and pitch.
Tinnitus can be caused by a variety of reasons:
Exposure to loud noise
Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ)
Age-related hearing loss
Earwax blockage
Meniere’s disease
Inner ear damage
Head or neck injury
Acoustic neuroma
Some people with tinnitus may only experience occasional, mild symptoms, while others may have more severe and persistent tinnitus that can affect their daily activities and quality of life.
There is no cure for tinnitus, but there are treatments available that can help to manage the condition and reduce the severity of the symptoms.
Can a Chiropractor Help Tinnitus?
In many cases, chiropractic care can help with tinnitus symptoms; especially when TMJ, head injuries, or neck injuries are involved. The reason why Chiropractic care may be beneficial is that a misalignment in the upper cervical spine can put pressure on the craniofacial nerve centers in and around the inner ear which can aggravate the symptoms of or even cause tinnitus.
Tinnitus treatment works by restoring the natural alignment of the upper cervical spine to alleviate any pressure interfering with inner ear neuronal function by realigning misplaced vertebrae. Small, precise upper cervical adjustments allow brain-to-body communication to be re-established so that the body can begin to mend and repair itself. The goal of tinnitus chiropractic care is to make fewer adjustments over time until the upper cervical area is strong enough to maintain its alignment on its own.
How long does it take for chiropractic care to correct Tinnitus?
Chiropractic care does not always entirely correct the symptoms of tinnitus. However, our Sacramento Chiropractor office typically gets our patients noticeable relief within the first four visits.
Tinnitus does not have a cure.
Unfortunately, it is one of those things that patients simply manage by making lifestyle changes like reducing their exposure to loud music, ensuring their neck is in alignment when they sleep, and getting regular chiropractic care.
