Why Do Chiropractor Adjustments Make Me Laugh? (3 Causes)

Have you ever heard of anyone giggling while receiving chiropractic care? Even though it may seem odd, it happens all the time!

At Barham Chiropractic, we have had patients have several different types of emotional release, and we are happy to make the experience as delightful as possible.

There are several reasons adjustments could cause laughter, but we wanted to share the top 3 reasons we think patients laugh at our Sacramento CA Office.

  1. Firstly, chiropractic adjustments can help release tension and stress in the body, leading to a feeling of relief and relaxation. This tension release can occasionally result in a physical and emotional response (emotional release), which might be expressed as laughter.

  2. Second, the nervous system can be stimulated by chiropractic adjustments, which can lead to the body producing endorphins and other organic compounds. Endorphins are known to produce pleasant feelings and may contribute to the development of a euphoric state, which may lead to laughter.

  3. And finally, for some individuals, laughing can be a coping mechanism. Sometimes, receiving a chiropractic adjustment can be uncomfortable, particularly if the area being adjusted is very tense or inflamed. Some people find that laughing helps them manage this discomfort and let out their tension in a fun manner.

While laughter during chiropractic adjustments is not unusual, it's not necessary or expected. Everyone responds to chiropractic adjustments differently, and some individuals don’t feel the urge to laugh at all.
