How Chiropractic Adjustments Help Kids

Here’s what parents notice most:

Babies & Infants

  • Sleep longer stretches and wake up less distressed
  • Feeding becomes easier: less frustration, less gassiness
  • Calmer in the car seat and the stroller
  • Inconsolable crying settles down
  • More present, more engaged, more like themselves

Children & Teens

  • Fewer migraines and headaches
  • Improved focus and attention
  • Faster recovery from sports injuries
  • Better sleep from less tension
  • Improved mood and stress response

Is Chiropractic Care Safe for Children?

Pediatric chiropractic adjustments are nothing like what you might picture for adults. There’s no cracking or forceful movement.

For infants, we use gentle fingertip pressure, often no more than you’d use to test the ripeness of a peach. Most babies sleep through the entire visit. Toddlers often don’t even notice. For older children and teens, adjustments are calibrated to their size, age, and what their spine actually needs.

Before any treatment, we do a thorough examination, including X-rays for older children when recommended. Our team firmly believes that you can’t fully understand what you’re treating without objective data.

We take the time to understand your child’s history and explain exactly what we’re seeing and why before we recommend anything.

Care That Grows Alongside Them

Babies & Infants (0-12 Months)

A newborn’s spine goes through a lot, even in a smooth delivery. The first weeks of life are one of the best times to have your baby checked, before small issues become patterns.

Consider bringing your baby in if you notice:

  • Difficulty nursing
  • Favoring one side
  • A noticeable head tilt
  • Trouble settling or feeling comfortable

Children (1-12 Years)

This is the stage where small spinal patterns from falls, sports, and heavy backpacks can compound if not addressed. Kids at this age respond quickly to care because their nervous systems are still so adaptable.

Consider bringing them in if you notice:

  • Recurring headaches or migraines
  • Disrupted sleep or trouble focusing
  • Ear infections that keep coming back
  • Developmental milestones are slower than expected

Teenagers (13–18 Years)

Teenagers deal with more physical demand than most people give them credit for: growth spurts, athletic training, and the toll of hours sitting hunched over looking at screens.

Consider bringing your teen in if you notice:

  • A significant growth spurt
  • Sports injury recovery needed
  • Neck and upper back tension
  • Stress that isn’t improving on its own

Why Choose Barham Chiropractic?

A True Family Practice

Our three chiropractors aren’t colleagues who happened to end up at the same chiropractic clinic. They’re family. That unique bond translates into a hard-to-find level of trust and transparency when caring for you and your kids.

Three Doctors, One Unified Approach

When your child is in our care, they benefit from the combined knowledge of three experienced chiropractors. Every detail of their care is documented in our system so any one of our doctors can care for them with full context.

Not Just Symptom Relief

We’re not here to temporarily reduce your child’s discomfort and send them home. We’re here to correct what’s causing the problem, track the change objectively, and give them a body that functions better for the long run.

35+ Years of Family-Centred Care

The roots of our practice go back nearly 80 years in Sacramento. We’ve been part of this community long enough to have cared for parents and their children, and in some cases, their children’s children.

Over 475 Five-Star Reviews and Counting

Barham Chiropractic is one of Sacramento’s most trusted chiropractic practices, serving patients across Sacramento, Elk Grove, Roseville, Folsom, and surrounding communities. We’ve been part of this city for over 35 years, and the practice itself has roots going back nearly 80 years in the Sacramento area.

We’re a true family practice, in every sense of the word. Three chiropractors, one shared philosophy: take the time to understand the patient, correct the problem properly, and measure the results objectively. You won’t find rushed in-and-out adjustments here. Every patient gets a thorough examination, x-rays when indicated, and a clear care plan with a real beginning and end.

Our clinic is located on Arden Way in downtown Sacramento and easily accessible from throughout the metro area. Free parking is right at the door, too.

Healthy Kids Start with a Healthy Nervous System

A healthy nervous system from an early age changes everything for your child: how they sleep, focus, recover, and grow. Whether your baby is a few weeks old or your teen is grinding through a tough sports season, we’re ready to help them.

Good Questions Deserve Straight Answers

We can examine and gently assess babies from birth. Many families bring their newborns in within the first weeks if they’re noticing feeding difficulties, limited neck movement, or general unsettledness. The sooner we can check, the sooner we can help or give you the reassurance that everything looks great.

We’ve seen it all, and nobody is rushed here. We work at your child’s pace, explain what we’re doing every step of the way, and make sure they feel safe and comfortable before we do anything. Many kids are surprised by how easy it is.

No. There’s a corrective process with a clear beginning and end. We take x-rays at key points to track objective progress. After the corrective phase, maintenance care is always your choice, never a pressure.

We take x-rays when they’re clinically indicated and appropriate for the child’s age and situation. We believe objective information leads to better care, and we’ll always explain our reasoning before proceeding.
